Alzheimer's and the Family

Alzheimer's disease can be devastating to the family. It is heartbreaking to helplessly watch a family members mind deteriorate. In most cases, the responsibility for helping the Alzheimer's patient falls on the unprepared adult children. We have developed a wide variety of programs to help the families with education, decision asking and, if necessary, nursing home placement.

Alzheimer's services available:

• Consultation with families, guardians, trust officers for residential care and nursing home selection and placement.
• Consultation and counseling with families and caregivers of Alzheimer patient.
• In-home training of individuals caring for an Alzheimer patient.
• Training caregivers on behavior management.

Linda Murphy, our Alzheimer's specialist, has 20 years of experience with gerentology both as a social worker and a nursing home director. She is very active with the Summit and Portage County Alzheimer's Associations.
